ADI training questions and details

  • Deciding if this is the career for you...

    Being an Approved Driving Instructor (ADI) your job will involve mixing with all sorts of people, some of whom you may not find easy to get on with. You will need good people skills and a lot of patience and understanding.

    Other key qualities:

    • a thorough knowledge of the theory and practice of driving

    • an ability to teach

    • a facility to keep abreast of changes in the statutory regulations that govern the content and conduct of driving tests as well as driving instruction

    • an ability to provide a professional service to people from very diverse backgrounds

    • and some business acumen

  • You will only be accepted onto the Register if you meet the following criteria:

    • You must hold a full UK or European Union (EU)/European Economic Area (EEA) unrestricted car driving licence

    Any EU/EEA licence must either be exchanged for a GB licence or a GB counterpart. Advice on exchange of foreign licences is available from DVLA

    • You have held your license for a total of at least four out of the past six years prior to entering the Register after qualifying

    A foreign driving licence, an automatic car driving licence or a provisional licence held after passing the driving test, all count towards the four years

    • You have NOT been disqualified from driving at any time in the four years prior to being entered in the Register

    • You are a ‘fit and proper’ person to have your name entered in the Register

  • The Training Courses delivered by JEDS Driving School are a result of many years of hard work, experience, knowledge, dedication and commitment shown by our founding instructor and instructor trainers. This is to ensure that our school and all our trainees have the very best in driving instructor training in every aspect of the course.

    On the Instructor Training Course you will receive:

    • The study pack, all text books and Hazard Perception and 5 sessions of classroom based study to complete the DVSA Part 1 exam.

    • Up to 12 Hours of one-to-one training in preparation for the DVSA Part 2 exam.

    • 40 Hours one-to-one in-car and classroom training in preparation for the DVSA Part 3 exam.

    • Dedicated personal tutors available to provide extra guidance and support, from one of our ORDIT registered training officers.

    DVSA Part One:

    Tuition covers all the subjects listed in the Driving Standards Agency’s (DVSA) syllabus. Our Course consists of 5 sessions of one-to-one classroom tuition with a trainer, together with mock exams and periods of home study and revision. Course study material is provided.

    DVSA Part Two:

    You receive on the road driver training of 5 sessions on a one-to-one basis. This will be given to ensure you are ready. We provide a suitable fully insured motorcar for the in-car training and DVSA Part Two Test.

    DVSA Part Three:

    You will receive 40 hours of in-car and classroom training on instructional techniques and practice. After completing your 40 hours, you will continue to receive further training until you qualify as an Approved Driving Instructor.

    DVSA STANDARDS Check:

    After qualifying you will receive an appointment to attend a check test at your local test centre. Further training is available at no cost, providing you have attended all three parts of the qualifying training.
